In the ’80s, he got his big break into television on the sitcom, Moonlighting. But it was his role as John McClane in the action thriller franchise Die Hard that launched Willis to superstardom.

What happened to Bruce Willis?
In March 2022, Bruce Willis’ family announced that the actor had been, recently diagnosed with aphasia, a condition that affects language and communication abilities.
After a career in film spanning over 40 years, the actor revealed he would not be returning to the big screen due to his declining health.
Less than a year later, Willis’ loved ones revealed that he had received a further diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a form of dementia that targets behaviour, language and movement.
This month, Willis’ loved ones took to social media to post a slew of touching tributes and share videos of the family celebrating the star’s 68th birthday amid his health struggles.

Willis’ family posted a joint statement on Willis’ Instagram account in March last year announcing the actor would be “stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him” following his aphasia diagnosis.
The post, co-signed by Willis’ wife Emma Heming, ex-wife Demi Moore and his five daughters said the decision was “as a result” of his declining health and taken with “much consideration”.
Terri Martin, who worked as the production supervisor on one of Willis’ last films, White Elephant, told The Times that while he had the “utmost admiration and respect” for Willis and his work, “it was time for him to retire.”

Bruce Willis may now be retired from acting, but the action star filmed multiple movies throughout 2021 that have been slated for 2022 and 2023 releases.
In 2022, Willis appeared in multiple action titles including White Elephant, Wrong Place, Wire Room and Paradise City.
Most recently, Willis reprised his role as Detective Knight in the franchise’s third instalment, Detective Knight: Independence, which was released in January this year.
Willis will make his final on-screen appearance in Assassin, which will premiere in select theatres at the end of the month.

The Los Angeles Times reported Willis had allegedly misfired a gun filled with blanks on the wrong cue twice. The alleged incident was later disputed by the film’s director.
This alleged accident was one of many reportedly concerning incidents that pointed to Willis’ declining cognitive abilities with reports the actor was turning up to set confused and having his lines delivered through an earpiece.
