Sainsbury’s makes major change to laundry detergent – and shoppers will be divided

SAINSBURY’S has made a major change to its laundry detergent which might divide some shoppers.

It’s switching up the packaging from plastic to cardboard in an effort to be more environmentally-friendly.

The change will affect the supermarket’s 750ml own brand detergent.

Each bottle is normally encased in plastic and costs at least £3.

But now each scent will appear in cardboard cartons.

The Sun has asked Sainsbury’s whether the prices are staying the same, and we’ll update when we know more.

Here are the lines affected:

Sainsbury’s has said the new packaging is recyclable in homes and reduces carbon emissions by 50%.

It’s also confirmed the new packaging will reduce the amount of plastic used by 80%.

The change is being implemented in all 600 stores and online from this week – but don’t forget about extra delivery charges if you order from the website.

You can find your nearest Sainsbury’s using the store locator on the website if you’d prefer.

The Sun has reached out to Sainsbury’s for comment.

Elsewhere, make sure you know the supermarket will close on Easter Sunday, April 9.

This applies to every branch in the UK.

But branches will be open on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday.

The chain’s supermarkets will be open between 6am and 11pm on Good Friday, 6am to 11pm on Easter Saturday and 7am to 10pm on Easter Monday.

Also, if you’re looking for Easter eggs, Sainsbury’s has some of the cheapest right now.

Some of its eggs are even selling for as little as £1.25 – but don’t waste any time.

These will snap up the closer we get to April.

And don’t forget delivery fees – orders under £40 are charged a £7 standard delivery fee, while orders over £40 are charged between £1 and £5.50.

You can buy a “delivery pass” though – these cost between £4 and £80 depending on the type.

You essentially buy a monthly, six-monthly or yearly pass and pay no up front fees for deliveries.

To sign up, just visit the website.
