The Showcase Of The Immortals takes place across two nights on Saturday, April 1, and Sunday, April 2 at SoFi Stadium.

It will be main-evented by Roman Reigns defending his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against AEW founder Cody Rhodes.

And judging by one Twitter exchange between Ariel Helwani and Reigns’ on-screen manager Paul Heyman, there may be a twist to the tale.

Conor McGregor was an in-studio guest on Helwani’s MMA Hour podcast. After their chat, the Dubliner posed for a photo with the host.

Helwani tweeted the photo to his 1.3 million followers with the caption: “Next stop … ‘Mania?”

The tweet was responded to by ECW founder Heyman, who took the opportunity to issue a warning to the 34-year-old.

He said: “.@TheNotoriousMMA would get SMASHED just like anyone else who dares to oppose the #TribalChief @WWERomanReigns!”

The rumour mill was fanned further when WWE’s official Twitter account retweeted Helwani’s original post.

This is far from the first time that McGregor has been embroiled in exchanges with WWE stars.

Last April, fellow Irish star Becky Lynch invited The Notorious to the upcoming WrestleMania.

McGregor had trashtalked professional wrestling during last year’s edition, at which Lynch was defending the RAW Women’s Championship against Bianca Belair.

McGregor tweeted in the early hours of the Monday morning: “Why wasn’t I at WrestleMania? They all fear me, that’s why.”

And after losing her RAW Women’s World Title match to Bianca Belair Lynch called for support next year.

She replied: “Hey man. I could have used you. Bianca brought an army. Next year?”

It is unclear if he will cameo at ‘Mania or even make a ringside appearance.

ON THE WAY MAC

However, the Irishman is poised for an eventual return to the Octagon for the first time since July 21, against fellow TUF coach Michael Chandler.

During a recent appearance on Fox News, McGregor said: “I’m hoping end of summer. We’re working towards late summer.

“I always train, I train everyday but I was filming the show and I’ve got a couple of commitments, this tour as well, this tour around St Patricks week.

“But when this finishes it will be isolation, I’ll go in formulate my camp.”

He is already looking beyond that, however, and used Fox as a platform through which to call out Floyd Mayweather for a rematch.

The two icons met in the boxing ring in 2017, with McGregor claiming an MMA repeat was on the cards but fell through.

He added: “That was the original, it was a verbal agreement, I box him, he fights me. But he didn’t honour it.

“He didn’t honoured it yet you know, who knows? I would go against him in another boxing bout. I’d like another crack at it.”
