Millions of Netflix users gain access to free upgrade that’s been requested for years

NETFLIX viewers may notice something a little different next time they go to watch their favourite TV show or movie.

The streaming giant has made a small but significant change to one of its most used features.

And that is subtitles.

Studies have shown that subtitles are increasingly popular, especially among younger audiences.

A recent YouGov poll found that more than a quarter of Brits like to have the subtitles on.

18 to 24-year-olds love them most, with six in ten opting to switch subs on – the highest of any age range.

And of course they’re essential to those who are hard of hearing.

So it’s no wonder Netflix has decided to give the subs some much-needed attention.

Firstly, you can finally change how large the text appears.

You can choose between small, medium and large.

But that’s not all, as it’s now possible to tinker with the style as well.

There’s white with no background, white with a black background, yellow with a black background, and black with a white background.

It appears to still be rolling out, so you may not notice the extra options just yet.

To have a look on your account, click on the cog icon that should show up when you have subtitles on.

If you see that, you should be able to make changes to the size and style.
