Perfect Match’s Joey Sasso: Inside a Day in My Life!

Alert! From spending time with his family to dreading his daily workout, Joey Sasso is just like Us.

“I usually have to overcome the feeling of ‘I don’t want to be here today,’” The Circle alum, 29, admits of his mid-morning gym session. “It can be an uphill battle, but I push through and get a fantastic workout.”

Sasso, who took home the win on season 1 of Netflix hit in 2020, revealed earlier this month that he’s more than two years sober — an accomplishment that hasn’t always been easy.

“For a long period of my life, I was in complete denial about being an addict, and I was not in a good place,” he told PopSugar in March. “I was a struggling actor in L.A., slinging drinks, trying to get by, and was severely depressed in my personal life. … I knew if I didn’t get clean, I was going to die. And if I were to relapse, I’m going to die. It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.”

While the New York native eventually overcame his addiction struggles, he knew returning to reality TV for Perfect Match — which premiered on Netflix in February — would be a challenge. For Sasso, having costar Chloe Veitch — who is a fellow sober Circle alum — by his side for the experience made things easier.

“Reality shows should be fun, and they should be escapism from your normal life. But I do think there is something to be said for seeing a person you can identify with and saying, ‘They’re going through the same s—t I’m going through, and they’re kicking ass and they’re taking life by the balls,’” Sasso continued about him and Veitch, 24, navigating their sobriety together on the Netflix dating series.

Now that he’s back home, the TV personality is all about maintaining his physical, mental and emotional health. From kick-starting each morning with meditation to intermittent fasting throughout the day, Sasso’s own well-being comes first.

When he’s not focused on himself, however, it’s all about being there for his family — and taking up the role of babysitter whenever his sister needs some help. “I’m on ‘uncle duty,’” he tells Us. “Spending time with my mother and babysitting my nieces and nephew.”
