Why are 4G calls turned off on O2? How to fix weird notification showing up on iPhone

O2 customers have reported a strange alert coming up on their iPhone which says 4G calling has been turned off.

It’s not the first time this has popped up – but affected users are still confused by it.

The alert looks like this

To find out what it’s about and how to fix it, read on below.

Why has O2 turned off my 4G calls?

If you’ve had a notification which says “4G Call Turned Off” you’re not alone.

The strange alert doesn’t exactly go into great detail about what or why this has happened either.

“O2 has turned off 4G calls on your account,” it simply reads.

This can be a little alarming and leave you wondering if you’re still able to make any calls at all.

“@O2 just had a notification to say you’ve switched off 4G calls on my account – why would this be?” one confused customer tweeted.

According to O2‘s response, it has something to do with a change in the network.

The firm has previously said: “A device does this check against the network every time it’s restarted, and one is done at 24-hour intervals.

“It is not unusual for a user data update to require a device restart.”

How to fix O2 turned off 4G calls

Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to fix the O2 turned off 4G calls issue.

Switching your iPhone on and off again should do the trick.

To check all is OK, go to Settings then Mobile Data.

Next, head to Mobile Data Options, then Voice & Data, followed by VoLTE.
