The city pub with a pet pig that’s become a big tourist attraction – she steals peanuts and sips on pints

WHILE some pubs have a resident dog to entertain drinkers, a London pub has opted for a rather unusual animal instead.

Frances Bacon is a pot-bellied pig who lives in The Conquering Hero – a pub in West Norwood, South London.

Pub landlords Vicky Taylor-Ross and her husband Ian bought their four-legged friend back in 2010.

The couple were determined to have a pig in their pub after Ian grew up with the animals in San Diego, California.

Vicky told the Mirror: “Frances was house trained within 48 hours of having her home.”

In the years since her arrival, Frances has become a firm favourite among both regulars and tourists alike.

Vicky added: “She [Frances] has the run of the pub and loves to greet her many fans who come to see her armed with treats like carrots and acorns.”

Despite being loved by visitors to the pub, they said some people do a double-take when they see Frances sitting by the fire.

She also has her own space in the beer garden to the rear of the pub, which is popular during the summer months.

However, the pig has been banned from some parts of the pub.

Frances is barred from the snack cupboard after being caught stealing crisps and nuts.

Punters are also urged not to leave their drinks within reach or to give her any of their leftover booze.

Ian told the BBC: ” We’ve had to bar her from having any beer.

“She managed to nick a pint or two and then started butting into people, but we’re keeping a closer eye on her now and that won’t happen again.”

However Vicky added: “She’s been an absolute joy and is certainly the Queen of the pub.”
