A MAJOR supermarket has been named the nation’s favourite for having “quality products at unbeatable prices.”

Aldi has been named the nation’s most popular supermarket, according to the latest polling data from YouGov.
The discounter was ranked ahead of Lidl, Tesco, Sainsbury’s Asda and Morrisons in the survery.
A whopping 81% of people named Aldi as their favourite supermarket, followed by Lidl in second with 78% and Tesco in third at 76%.
Richard Thornton, communications director at Aldi, said: “Aldi continues to offer great quality products at unbeatable prices, which is why we believe British shoppers have voted us the nation’s favourite supermarket yet again.”
The survey is conducted quarterly and based on sentiment, rather than factors such as price.
It comes just after Aldi was named the UK’s cheapest supermarket at the end of January, according to The Grocer 33.
Aldi overtook Lidl with a total cost of £46.78 for its item – £1.12 cheaper than Lidl.
Which? also rounded up 2022’s cheapest supermarket.
It compares thousands of products from eight supermarkets across the year, so it might be more accurate if you’re looking for a wider comparison.
It found Aldi was the cheapest supermarket for seven consecutive months from June to December while Lidl was the cheapest from January to May.
The consumer champion also looked at the cheapest supermarket for a basket of 48 goods in December, and Aldi came out on top again.
A basket at the German discounter cost £81.63 compared to next cheapest Lidl, where it was £83.24.
There are also comparison sites like Trolley.co.uk – it takes prices from 130,000 products across 14 major supermarkets and lets shoppers know which retailer is selling it for less.
You should always compare your shopping to other supermarkets as a general rule in case you miss out on a bargain.
And if you deliver to your home, make sure you take into account added costs.
You can usually find your nearest supermarket branch when you visit the brand’s website if you’d rather visit in person.
Tips for keeping the grocery bill down
It’s always a good ideas to look for ways to save on your supermarket weekly shop, regardless of where you go.
For example, there are cheap food clubs run by local community groups or charities floating around.
They’re different to food banks because you don’t need to be referred by anyone to join one.
These clubs link up with local supermarkets, who donate food nearing their sell-by date. They are usually run from public places, such as church halls.
There’s also food waste apps to make use of.
The Too Good To Go app, for instance, matches you with local food outlets that have food left at the end of the day to sell for less.
You pay from £1 to £7 for a ‘magic’ bag or box from a local business that contains a surprise mix of products.
Morrisons does a “Magic box’”, which usually costs around £3.09 and will contain at least £10 worth of food.
