RING doorbell owners should think twice before making any extra smart home purchases if they want to get the most out of their camera.
Certain smart speakers and gadgets have more integration with Ring than others.
Ring doorbells work best with an Echo Show
Ring is owned by Amazon, so naturally the online retailer wants you to use their smart devices over others.
To get the most out of it, you’ll need an Amazon Echo speaker or display.
Rivals like Google Home do work with Ring but there are some huge limitations.
If you have Google’s Nest Smart Hub, you won’t be able to look at a live view from your camera.
You won’t get a notification about any motion detected either.
But if you own an Echo speaker or Echo Show display, you will get all the bells and whistles.
So, if you’re thinking about kitting out your home with more smart tech, consider which devices you go for.
If you already have a Google Home device, you might want a Nest doorbell instead.
It’s annoying, but to benefit from all the options you need to stick to the same company as much as possible.
Otherwise it could be a costly mistake.
Of course, you don’t have to have a smart speaker or display.
You can stick to your smartphone – whether it be iPhone or Android – without any limitations.
Which devices work best with Ring?
Most smart speakers and displays have some functionality with Ring.
But ones made by Amazon itself get the full whack.
Anyone wanting a smart speaker or display that works with their Ring doorbell should therefore consider Amazon Echo devices.
Echo uses Alexa.
Amazon has a load of Echo speakers, starting from the £30 Echo Dot.
The Echo Show is a display-based Alexa smart device.
The cheapest of the bunch is the Echo Show 5, which costs £45.
