Ashton Kutcher Recalls Reese Witherspoon’s Son “Really Trash-Talking” Him During Filming

Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher may have made an awkward red carpet appearance while promoting their new movie, “Your Place or Mine,” but they seem to have a pretty chill relationship. In an interview with POPSUGAR, the pair discussed the videos they sent each other to get ready for their roles, with Witherspoon revealing that her kids had some choice words for Kutcher at one point.

“It is Super Bowl weekend that this is coming out, and I think people need to know that my son is the biggest Eagles fan, and [Kutcher]’s a Bears fan, and my son was trash-talking your team,” Witherspoon said, referring to her 19-year-old son, Deacon Philippe. “He was really trash-talking,” Kutcher responded. “Like, these could be fighting words.”

The two actors also shared their favorite rom-com couples, both of which star Meg Ryan – Kutcher favors Sam (played by Tom Hanks) and Annie in “Sleepless in Seattle,” while Witherspoon loves the titular duo in “When Harry Met Sally,” the former of which is played by Billy Crystal. They went on to reveal their favorite books, with Witherspoon sharing that her favorite is “Wild” by Cheryl Strayed. Kutcher’s, meanwhile, is Hermann Hesse’s “Siddhartha” – a book he said provoked an “awakening” for him, which maybe partly explains his seemingly zen reaction to Witherspoon’s son’s “fighting words.”

“There was this moment where I went, it doesn’t matter,” he said. “We’re all the same.”

“Your Place or Mine” is now streaming on Netflix. Watch the interview above.
