Chris Lane and Lauren Bushnell Clarify Inspiration Behind Son Baker’s Name

Lane, party of four! Chris Lane and Lauren Bushnell Lane opened up to Us Weekly about their sons, Dutton and Baker, and how they are adjusting to life as parents of two kids under two.

“It’s all chaotic,” the former Bachelor contestant, 33, exclusively told Us in a joint interview with her husband, 38, while promoting their partnership with Hill’s Nutrition. “But fun. It’s definitely one of those things where I’m sure one day we’ll look back and it’ll be too quiet in our house. So I’m trying not to take it for granted or wish away time, but it can be a little stressful at times.”

The couple, who wed in 2019, welcomed Dutton in June 2021. She gave birth to son Baker in October 2022.

“I had one of those running lists like probably a lot of women out there do on my phone of baby names. Baker was on there. I don’t know. I don’t actually personally know anyone named Baker other than Baker Mayfield,” Bushnell Lane told Us of the inspiration behind their second child’s moniker.

Lane noted that “everyone literally thought we named our child” after the NFL quarterback — but that isn’t the case.

“I’m a huge Carolina Panthers fan. And I’m like ‘No, we were naming our kid Baker long before he decided to go to Carolina this past year.’ I got that a whole lot,” the country singer said.

Bushnell Lane added that people were “waiting for us to name our second [kid] after another character on Yellowstone,” but they opted against that.

In addition to their two sons, the pair have two dogs, Cooper and Chloe, and teamed up with Hill’s Nutrition after Chloe struggled with weight gain.

“We genuinely had no idea [before the vet told us]. I mean, we knew that she loved food, she’s definitely our food-motivated dog, but he advised that she was a little bit overweight,” Bushnell Lane explained. “We didn’t want to deprive her. We didn’t want to treat our dogs differently, like, give Cooper food and then cut back [with Chloe] and have her be starving or anything like that. Like a lot of pet parents out there, [one of the ways] we show our dogs love is food.”

She continued: “[Now] we feed our dogs the same weight management food. They both are on it. Cooper — who didn’t necessarily need to lose weight, he’s kind of on the opposite end spectrum where he is a little bit more of a finicky eater — he loves the food [too] and we know that he’s getting the nutrients he needs. He’s getting his two meals a day and he’s actually eating them and finishing them, which is huge for us. And then Chloe, we know that she’s still able to eat and enjoy her food — enjoys it a little too quickly [and we] still need to figure out how to slow her down — but we’re not depriving her.”
