A DRIVER claims his car broke down after filling up with diesel at Asda.
David Matthews, 56, claims the diesel was “contaminated”, and he now has a £700 bill to fix his car.

Asda said they were looking into the problems with his car – after other drivers reported problems filling up at the chain’s petrol station in Cardiff, Wales.
David said he noticed a warning within 10 minutes of filling up at his local 24-hour Asda superstore in Wigan, Greater Manchester on December 28 as his Nissan X-Trail “coughed and spluttered” its way home.
He claimed his Nissan flashed a warning light saying there was water in his fuel filter.
David told The Sun Online that three mechanics from his local garage all examined the car and told him there was something wrong with the fuel.
He claimed that they said it “didn’t smell like diesel” and that it was “contaminated”, though they couldn’t work out what was mixed into it.
David said mechanics told him he needed a new fuel pipe, and they spent six hours draining his petrol tank completely to flush out the diesel.
All together, the repairs cost £726, on top of the £30-40 of wasted fuel, and left David without a car for two weeks.
David said he had to borrow cars from relatives and ask for lifts to get to his job at Jaguar Land Rover.
David said: “It has been quite costly and I’ve had to put family out by borrowing their vehicles.
“It’s very hard… I either have to beg people for a lift or borrow a car…it’s very time consuming and puts everyone out.”
Asda told David they would be looking into the issue.
A spokesperson for the supermarket said: “Hundreds of drivers fill up at these pumps every day and we’ve not received any other complaints about the fuel at this site.
“We have contacted this customer to try to understand what has happened on this occasion.”
