Everton sweating over fitness of Calvert-Lewin with star striker set for ‘scan’ ahead of Merseyside derby vs Liverpool

EVERTON are sweating over the fitness of Dominic Calvert-Lewin after he limped off against Arsenal.

That’s as the striker prepares for a scan ahead of next week’s Merseyside derby against Liverpool.

Sean Dyche led his relegation-threatened Toffees to victory in his first game at the helm.

James Tarkowski scored the only goal of the game in Saturday’s incredible 1-0 win over runaway league leaders Arsenal.

And the result saw Everton move off bottom of the table to give their survival hopes a huge boost.

However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for Dyche.

Star striker Calvert-Lewin started the game at Goodison Park, just his 11th appearance of the season so far.

Everton fans were delighted to see him in action after injuries limited him to just 17 games last term.

And it was hoped Calvert-Lewin had put his recent setbacks behind him for a resurgence in the second half of the campaign.

However, the England international had to be taken off after the hour mark after looking to be in discomfort.

It’s feared Calvert-Lewin may have tweaked his troublesome hamstring again.

And there are now doubts over his involvement in next Monday’s crunch derby against Liverpool at Anfield.

But boss Dyche admits everyone at Goodison is keeping their fingers crossed as Calvert-Lewin prepares to undergo a scan.

He said: “We will have to wait and see. I don’t think it’s a drastic one but he needs to settle it down so we will probably give it two days before we scan it just as a precaution at this stage.

“We just had a chat with him to see where he is at, how he is feeling about things.

“His body is getting stronger. He’s niggled his hamstring which was a risk and reward situation, because he’s been a bit up and down with that.

“We said just give us a chance to work with you and you will get stronger.”
