Many drivers slow down and speed up as they pass over bumps to avoid damaging their motor
But experts have warned constant slowing down followed by acceleration can negatively affect fuel consumption.
And it can lead to motorists spending much more money on petrol and diesel.
Experts at Euro Car Parts say that many motorists don’t know that constantly driving at one speed through speed bump-filled roads can massively improve fuel economy.
They say: “Acceleration and deceleration whilst driving can mean extra fuel is used, and this includes driving over speed bumps, so learning how to properly tackle them could save motorists a lot of money.
“Drivers can avoid unnecessary fuel consumption by driving at a constant speed and avoiding accelerating or braking too often in between speed bumps, which is when most fuel is used.”
Another tip is parking your car in a garage during the colder months.
This will increase your engine’s temperature overnight – meaning you can reduce the time spent warming it up before driving the next day.
It’s also worth knowing that maintaining the correct tyre pressure will increase longevity, as well as saving on fuel consumption – which also saves you money.
Removing unnecessary weight from your vehicle will also maximise fuel economy.
Check the boot for forgotten bags and stow the roof or bike rack away when you’re not using them.
A TikTok user has shared an app that lets drivers compare and review petrol stations in their local area for free.
The name is PetrolPrices and they say that an average member could save £200 a year on petrol and diesel.
