RECEIVING a parking fine is an inconvenience that no driver would want to go through.
When purchasing a parking ticket, there are rules on how it must be displayed. Here’s all you need to know.

But they’re even more painful when you already bought a ticket and put it on display.
Penalty notices given when a valid ticket has fallen off your dashboard are nicknamed “fluttering ticket cases” – and your appeal can go either way.
Can I be fined if my ticket falls off the dashboard?
Yes, you can.
Many councils now have strict rules stating that your ticket is invalid if a warden cannot quickly see it.
That condition has led the Traffic Penalty Tribunal to side with councils in the vast majority of fluttering ticket cases, according to Parking Ticket Expert.
This is because the tribunal can only side with your claim if you followed the letter of the law – regardless how silly those rules might be.
Where should I display my ticket?
Depending on your vehicle, there should be a number of places you can obviously display your valid ticket.
On the driver’s seat side is always sensible, as that’s where the inspector is likely to look.
Your best bet, however, is on the inside of the windscreen.
That way, if the ticket does fall it should land safely on the surface below rather than onto your car seat and out of sight.
How much is a parking fine?
Parking fines are capped at £100, so you’ll never be charged more than that for a single violation of the rules.
That’s still a steep amount – and in most high streets and shopping centres you can expect a lower charge.
If you think you’ve been issued a ticket unfairly, here are some top tips for appealing the charge.
And this is what you need to know about parking where a ticket machine isn’t working.
