In the clip, a man is seen wearing a black vest developed by UK-based PPSS Group that the video says can “save your life.”
PPSS Group is a UK-based firm specializing in the development of body armor and protective clothing.
Their weapons, much like the vest, offer protection from firearms, edged weapons, hypodermic needles, as well as blunt force trauma and human bites.
In the video, the victim is shown being targeted by an attacker wielding a knife and a baseball bat.
At one point in the demonstration, the attacker repeatedly hits the man with a baton – to no avail.
The victim appears unharmed after each attack thanks to the vest, which is created from a material known as auxilam.
Auxilam is a unique carbon fiber composite material that will protect a wearer from most edged weapons and shanks, according to the PPSS Group.
It can protect the wearer from up to 100 joules of impact from weapons.
The video noted that for a typical human, an impact from 50 joules is enough to be lethal.
Weighing in at just 3.7 pounds, the vest is lightweight and “ultra-thin” as it protects many vital organs.
It also features a zip-less design that prevents it from being easily removed by an attacker.
Social media reactions
Since going live, the video has received more than 4.9million views and hundreds of comments.
“Just take my money,” one user commented underneath the video.
“But is it legal to wear? Bulletproof vests are illegal to wear,” one person pointed out.
“New Yorkers who ride the subway are looking at this vest…” another joked.
