APPLE is hauling in a new iOS system for iPhone owners, with one change that could be costly if users are unaware.
The tech company is altering how the so-called ‘Call with Hold for Emergency SOS’ feature works.

The new iOS 16.3 system is set to be released next week, according to Apple.
And with it, iPhones up-to-date with the newest software will now wait until users release the buttons to call emergency services, even after the countdown.
According to Apple news outlet 9to5mac, which has trialled a beta version of the system, the tech giant had previously been asking for feedback on the feature.
Many iPhone users found they would accidentally trigger the Emergency SOS feature and then cancel it before the countdown ran out.
The new update seeks to avoid this.
With iPhone 14s, the latest smartphone pushed out by Apple, the Emergency SOS has been built into a game-changing Crash Detection feature.
The device is able to use its sensors to pick up on whether a car has crashed and automatically call the emergency services.
Apple is also introducing long-awaited Security Keys for Apple ID.
Security Keys are physical tokens that people use as a second layer of authentication.
In iOS 16.3, Security Keys will replace the passcodes sent to your iPhone when logging into another device.
Sadly, not all iPhone models can get the latest update.

Once iOS 16.3 is released, experts expect iOS 16.4 beta testing to begin almost immediately after.
How to update your iPhone
Your iPhone will let you know if your device is due an update.
It will even offer to schedule it for when you will likely be asleep and not using the device.
But if you want to do so manually, here’s a guide on how to update your iPhone.
Head to Settings > General > Software Update.
If you want to go a step further and automate your updates, then turn on the Automatic Updates when in the Software Update window.
Then, turn on Download iOS Updates.
