BRUSHING your teeth, flossing and regular mouth washing might not be enough to keep your gnashers healthy, a dentist has warned.

Avoiding some common but dangerous habits can stop you needing to fork out thousands at the dentist.

Bad habits can lead to chipped, sensitive and crooked teeth, the dentist warned

Dr Wei Jian, from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, shared a video on the social media platform about how certain behaviours are leading to chipped, sensitive and crooked teeth.   

He showed the consequences of grinding your teeth together, which can lead to flat and sensitive teeth.

His second tip is to steer clear of tooth picks, which can cause receding gums and sensitive teeth.

And finally, he urged people to stop biting their nails which can leave teeth chipped and uneven.

It comes after a dentist warned that people were flossing incorrectly.

Speaking to The Sun, Dr Kailesh Solanki a dentist from Manchester, urged people not to move the floss “too roughly in a sawing action”.

“Instead, gently slide the floss across the side, front and back of each tooth and under the gumline to dislodge food particles and plaque.”

He also cautions people against reusing the same section of floss to clean more than one gap, so that you aren’t “simply moving debris around”.

But the most common mistake patients make is giving up on flossing when their gums bleed, the expert said.

“This can be a sign of gum disease and is actually an indication that you need to continue with regular flossing.
