The 65-year-old enjoyed an epic playing career for Tottenham and Monaco before becoming player-manager at Swindon Town and then Chelsea.

His displays on the pitch earned him legendary status – but it was his feats with Spurs that made him an icon at White Hart Lane.

However, despite knowing he still has a legion of fans, he has admitted his shock at what he discovered after getting lost in Israel.

Hoddle, who won the FA Cup twice at Spurs, was shoved into a house by a stranger during his holiday.

And he has now opened up about his experience of being trapped in a room with the obsessed supporter.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Hoddle said: “I’m lost. I don’t know which way I’m going.

“This fella, he just walked out of this door and he grabs me into the house and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I’m being kidnapped!’”

But that was just the start of the strangeness.

Hoddle added: “He drags me in to this little living room and he points up at the wall and he’s going, ‘Mama! Mama!’

“He’s got Spurs pictures and Spurs scarves – this is the God’s honest truth.

“All over the wall there’s pictures of us, the 81/82 team, and it was like a shrine to Tottenham Hotspur.

“Pictures of me, Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa.”

Fortunately for Hoddle he was able to make his escape after signing an autograph.
