‘Got to feel sorry for them’ – punter misses out on £90,000 winnings after cashing out before last horse won

A PUNTER who won £28,000 from just £3 was still left thinking what could have been – after cashing out before the last horse in their bets won.

Had they let their two monster accumulators run for Glimpse Of Gala’s win at Warwick they would have won an eye-popping £120,000 in all.

While the £28,000 return is not to be sniffed at, Paddy Power spokesman Paul Binfield said: “You’ve got to feel sorry for them.”

The punter placed two bets on Saturday afternoon, one £1 each way accumulator with six selections and another £1 acca featuring seven picks.

The only difference between the bets was Galia Des Liteaux, who won the 1.50 at Warwick at 3-1.

Before that, Evan Williams’ 7-2 Annsam had won the 1.30 at Kempton by 17 lengths at 7-2.

Pic D’Orhy claimed the Coral Silviniaco Conti Chase at 5-4.

After that the punter saw Grey Dawning win at 3-1, Iwilldoit claim the Wigley Group Classic Handicap Chase at 11-1 and West Balboa the Handicap Hurdle at 14-1.

It meant both bets were still alive with whopping cash outs going into the final selection.

That was Glimpse Of Gala in the 3.35 at Warwick over 3m1f.

But the punter decided it was not worth the risk and cashed out the each way punt and straight win accumulator for £6,654 and £21,155 respectively.

Sent off 2-1 with Paddy Power, the Charlie Longsdon-trained runner travelled well through the race.

And the punter no doubt watched in horror as she pulled away after the last to win by two-and-a-quarter lengths from Ashtown Lad.

Had they let the bet run they would have won £23,887 and £95,225 respectively from the two bets.

So while they won £28,000 from £3 in all they really should have pocketed a whopping £119,112.

Binfield said: “Mystic Meg would have done well to find six winners let alone seven.

“I suppose it’s all relative and you’ve got to be over the moon to win £28,000 for a £3 stake, but despite that you’ve got to feel sorry for this punter who cashed out before the agonising watch of Glimpse Of Gala digging deep to win which would have scooped them a magical £120,000.”

This is the second huge win for a punter in recent days, with another winning £40,000 from a £2 Lucky 15.

However, even they saw £260,000 go up in smoke after an agonising loss for another horse they needed.
