Still going strong! Kody Brown‘s family has shifted significantly over the years, but his marriage to Robyn Brown has stood the test of time.
The couple entered a spiritual union in May 2010. Robyn was previously married to David Jessop from 1999 to 2007, and the former couple share three children: son David “Dayton” and daughters Aurora and Breanna.
Kody was initially in a legal marriage with Meri Brown from 1990 to 2014, when he filed for divorce from his first wife in order to adopt Robyn’s kids with her ex-husband. When Robyn joined the family, the Wyoming native was also spiritually married to Christine Brown and Janelle Brown. (Christine announced her split from Kody in November 2021, and Janelle followed suit one year later. He and Meri “permanently” ended their relationship in January 2023.)
The businessman and Robyn welcomed two biological children as fans followed along with the Brown family on TLC’s Sister Wives. In March 2021, Kody — who is the father of 18 kids in total — exclusively told Us Weekly that he hadn’t ruled out adding another baby to his brood.
“That’s really up to [Robyn],” he told Us. “But it’s always fun to sit here and fill my youth going, ‘I can have kids if I want to.’ I do that to my adult children sometimes. It’s not cool to Robyn. She’s like, ‘Oh, this jerk is doing it again.’”
Kody added that he gets a kick out of “teasing” his family about the possibility. “I’m like, ‘I can have more kids if I want to. I might have kids younger than your kids,’ stuff like that. It’s more, like, a dumb thing where I’m just challenging the kids.”
When it comes to welcoming another little one, Kody is putting the ball in his wife’s court. “Personally, I think it’s up to Robyn,” he explained. “But whenever I ask her, she always goes, ‘Well, it’s up to us. We make this decision together.’”
Before his three other spouses left the family, Kody was frequently called out by the women for appearing to give Robyn more attention. During the season 17 Sister Wives: One-on-One special, he shed light on why he put so much energy into his and Robyn’s marriage.
“It’s not about a favorite, it’s about finding favor,” he said in the January 2023 episode. “There’s a character issue here. And it’s not just about my character, it’s about their character. And who wants to run deep here. Do you want to find favor by being loyal to me and never allowing someone to trash talk me? Or do you want to sit here and be the one who is trash talking me?”
While he alleged that Christine, Meri and Janelle “s–t talked” him “from the beginning” of their relationships, Kody asserted that Robyn never has. “I’m saying if Christine was envious … does that make Robyn and I bad? Everybody is looking at [it] as [if it’s] some kind of unfairness. That’s the danger of polygamy,” he added.
