A MAN has revealed a hotel “hack” that he claims can make his room safer and more comfortable.
While hotel safes aren’t always as secure as they’re supposed to be, there are other methods people use to keep their belongings safe in their rooms.

Tiktok user Burton Outdoors (@burton.outdoors) showed how he puts thieves off by making them think he’s in his room, even when he isn’t.
Most hotels nowadays will need the room key to be put into a power slot to turn the electricity on.
However, the Tiktoker showed a clever way to get around the system, using an old bank card.
Not only does it mean he can leave the lights and television on, while taking the key out, making it appear that he’s still in, but also, he can keep his fridge running, to keep food and drink cool.
In the video he says: “When you’re in hotel room, do the hotel room hack.
“So if you’ve got a fridge, anything you want to leave on, like the TV or the lights when you leave the room, take your room key, stick your debit card in the slot.
“Everything keeps running.
“When you come back, don’t forget to take your debit card out.”
The footage has been viewed more than a million times, but not everyone is convinced that it either works, or is necessary.
One said: “Fridges definitely stay on anyway, so yeah just burn the lights for no reason.”
Others argued it actually made his room less safe.
A user wrote: “Defo worth getting your bank card stolen by a cleaner so that the TV is on when I return.”
Other frequent travellers have different ways to make themselves feel safer in a hotel room.
A flight attendant revealed the safety routine she follows whenever she checks into a hotel – and she has urged other females to do the same.
Cabin crew member Erie explained that her fear comes from experience, after people attempted to break into her hotel rooms during layovers.
In a video, she is seen propping the door open with her suitcase, so that she can get out quickly if she needs to.
She then checks cupboards and under the bed to make sure no one is waiting for her in her room.
The flight attendant then retrieves her luggage and locks the door using a special lock.
While closing the door, a caption reads: “Safety always comes first.
“I have had people attempt to break into my room on layovers so I always travel with this.”
Another man provided a hotel security tip, by showing why he doesn’t trust the safes in hotel rooms.
He revealed that by putting in a “supercode” anyone can get around the four-digit pins set by guests.
Elsewhere, Toni Raurich, the director of the booking platform eBooking.com, offered his advice on how to not get your stuff nicked in a hotel, including using an old shampoo bottle.
He told the Express: “Leaving valuables in the hotel is not always the safest option, especially if the hotel is of a very low category.
“For this reason, it is highly recommended to hide things inside the room itself, with the aim of not leaving all our money in sight or things of value.
“One of the most common travel tips is to hide money or jewellery in an empty shampoo bottle. In the same way, inside the suitcase itself, you can have hidden pockets where it is possible to hide larger objects.”
Toni also said that underneath the mattress is a good spot to hide things, but advised aiming for the centre of the bed rather than just putting things under the edges.
Meanwhile, a Tiktok user showed the extreme lengths she goes to to ensure no one breaks into her hotel room.
And this £1 household item could also help keep you safe in your hotel room.
