A MYSTERY punter is more than £40,000 better off after a freak £2 Lucky 15 came in.
But they would have been celebrating a life-changing £300,000 winner had their final horse in another bet on the same night not been so desperately unlucky.
ReutersThe Betfair punter celebrated a massive winner – but it could have been even more had their final horse not suffered interference at a crucial stage[/caption]
The unnamed punter, who Betfair confirmed is based in Britain, tackled the Flat racing at Kempton on Saturday night.
They picked four horses in four consecutive races from 6.30pm and watched as they somehow all came in.
First was 12-1 chance Lordsbridge Girl who saw off odds-on fav Asdaa under a typically cosy ride from Jamie Spencer.
How to turn a £2 Lucky 15 into £40,000
6.30 Lordsbridge Girl 12-1… Won
7.00 Floating Spirit 15-2… Won
7.30 Kiwano 12-1… Won
8.00 Imperial Sands 10-1… Won
Floating Spirit won the next at 7.00 with an SP of 11-2 but the punter backed them at 15-2.
Kiwano, another Spencer ride, returned in the 7.30 with an SP of 16-1 but the punter backed them at 12-1.
It meant the whopping five-figure payout all rested on Imperial Sands in the 8.00.

Ridden by Hollie Doyle, the Archie Watson-trained runner showed real guts to hold off a late challenge from 3-1 fav Aussie Banker.
The return on the four selections – which totalled 15 bets in all and £2 on each line for a £30 stake – was a staggering £40,491.10.
But incredibly, the same punter had picked the same four horses in another bet with one extra selection.
The five-fold each way punt – with a total stake of £3.21 – returned a life-changing £269,000 and was all down to Oriental Art in the concluding 1m3f handicap.
Again ridden by Spencer, the horse travelled ominously well into contention but met traffic a furlong out.
Eventually finishing fourth, had Oriental Art won then the punter would have scooped £300,000 in all.
Betfair spokesman Barry Orr said: “They’ve landed a right touch.
“They wanted Oriental Art for over £260,000 and even if he had finished third they’d have got a good return off the five-fold, too.
“For a Saturday night sit-at-home punter, it was a real nice touch.
“It added a bit of spice to the FA Cup third round Saturday evening for sure.
“They could have landed nearly £300,000 but it wasn’t to be.
“They’ve hit the crossbar, but still come away with over £40,000, which isn’t an insignificant sum for his investment.”
