Harry Kane can break Greaves’ Tottenham goals record vs ARSENAL.. 21 years after Gunners released him for being ‘chubby’

HARRY KANE is on the verge of surpassing Jimmy Greaves’ record of 266 Tottenham goals.

And he could do it next week… in a north London derby against the club that once released him.

The striker, 29, scored his 265th goal for Spurs during the club’s 1-0 win over Portsmouth on Saturday.

He is now just one goal away from equalling Greaves’ impressive record and becoming Tottenham’s joint all-time top scorer.

This comes 21 years after Kane was RELEASED by Spurs’ main rivals Arsenal.

In 2002, the England skipper was dropped from the Gunners’ famous Hale End academy for being “chubby”.

Liam Brady, who was in charge of Arsenal’s youth setup at the time, has since revealed that dismissing him was a big mistake.

In 2018, Brady told Corriere della Sera: “He was chubby and not very athletic, but we got it wrong.

“Even Tottenham loaned him out to the lower leagues three or four times though.

“But through his determination he has carved out an amazing career and he deserves it.

“After Messi, Ronaldo and Lewandowksi, there is Kane, the statistics speak for themselves.”

Kane joined Tottenham’s academy in 2004, two years after leaving Arsenal.

He signed his first professional contract with the club in July 2010, but struggled to break into the first team.

The striker was then sent out on loan and enjoyed spells with Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich and Leicester respectively.

Upon his return he earned a regular spot in Tottenham‘s first team and was awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

He has since made 412 appearances for the Lilywhites.
