Greggs has made a change to opening hours – and shoppers will love it

GREGGS has made a major change to its store opening hours and shoppers will love it.

The bakery giant has announced that it will extend the opening hours of hundreds of stores.

The SunGreggs also has plans to open a further 150 shops this year[/caption]

Over 500 shops will now be open until 8pm, meaning sales during the early evening are growing fast.

The firm didn’t confirm which branches would have their opening hours extended, but we’ve asked for more information.

It comes as the sausage roll shop began to roll out its new evening menu late last year – which features customisable pizzas, sharing platters and hot desserts.

Greggs first extended the opening hours of 300 of its shops back in August 2022 and now a further 200 of its 2,300 outlets will keep the doors open until 8pm.

Most shops were open until 5.30pm or 6.30pm but hundreds are now open until 8pm, 8.30pm, 9pm, 10pm or even 11pm, depending on location.

For example, multiple stores in London are open after 10pm. The Westminster Underground shop and Victoria Coach Station are open until 10pm.

And the Greggs at London Bridge Station is even open till 11pm.

You can find your nearest Greggs store and its opening hours by using the shop finder on its website.

It comes as Greggs revealed that its sales surged by nearly a quarter over 2022 despite increasing the prices of its sausage rolls and other baked goods several times during the year.

The low-cost food chain said total sales rose 23% over the 12 months to hit £1.51 billion, up from £1.23 billion the previous year.

But the chain admitted that inflation continues to hit its costs, including energy and food products, with the group seeing costs up by about 9% on average over 2022, compared with the previous year.

It forced the group to increase the prices of some of its key food items several times over the course of the year, with the sausage roll, lunchtime deal and hot evening deals going up each time by 5p or 10p.

The national price of its sausage roll is now £1.20, having started 2022 at £1.

And in some city-centre locations like London, its sausage roll costs as much as £1.45.

However, the bakery giant has plans to open a further 150 new stores in 2023.

Greggs revealed a huge January menu shake-up which included the addition of three new vegan items yesterday.

There are 11 items on the revamped menu including the classic vegan sausage roll and glazed ring doughnut.

But it’s the first time three items have been launched nationwide after being sold regionally.

They are a cajun chicken-free roll, southern fried chicken-free baguette and chicken-free goujons.

Customers looking to get their spud fix can continue to buy hash browns too.
