Football have been paying their own respects with all Prem games this weekend beginning with a minute’s applause for the three-time World Cup winner, while every player will wear a black armband.

Brazilian players have been paying tribute in their own ways with Manchester United star Antony lifting up a t-shirt with a message that read: “Rest in peace Pele.”

And with Newcastle in action for the first time since the 82-year-old died, Guimaraes performed his own act.

When both teams were lining up for the applause ahead of kick-off, he was wearing an old Brazil shirt with Pele and 10 on the back.

The shirt looks to have been signed by the great man himself.

Guimaraes was seen putting his hands together and looking up to the sky.

The ex-Lyon star is the latest Brazil star to remember Pele with Neymar posting an emotional message on Instagram.

He said: “Before Pele, 10 was just a number. I’ve read this phrase somewhere, at some point in my life.

“But this sentence, beautiful, is incomplete. I would say before Pele football was just a sport. Pele has changed it all. He turned football into art, into entertainment.

“He gave voice to the poor, to the black community and especially: He gave visibility to Brazil.

“Football and Brazil have raised their status thanks to the King! He’s gone but his magic remains. Pele is FOREVER!!”

Other footballing greats, including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney have also paid tribute since his passing.
