Millions urged to watch out for new Google warning that could save from danger

GOOGLE has created a very handy alert that could protect you from danger.

It works to stop frustrating (and even criminal) spam calls that are targeting you.

Google is added a new “suspected spam caller” alert to Google Voice calls.

This will warn you when a call comes through so that you can safely ignore it.

“To help protect you from unwanted calls and potentially harmful scams, Google Voice shows a ‘suspected spam called’ label on all calls that Google believes to be spam,” Google explained.

“Google makes this determination using the same advanced artificial intelligence that identifies billions of spam calls each month across Google’s calling ecosystem.”

When a suspected spam call appears, you have a few options.

You can mark the call as spam, which causes all future calls from that number to redirect straight to voicemail.

Those call history entries will also be entered into the spam folder.

Alternatively you can mark a labelled call as “not spam’.

The system won’t necessarily catch every spammer, but it could stop a few.

It’s also possible to set up spam filtering, which will automatically divert spam calls.

“Suspected spam labeling appears automatically when the Voice spam filter setting (Settings > Security > Filter spam) is OFF,” Google explained.

“When spam filtering is ON, all calls that Google identifies as spam are automatically sent to voicemail, and the call entry is put into the spam folder.”

You can change these settings at any time.

The new spam-labelling feature began rolling out on December 29, 2022.

And Google says it could take up to 15 days for you to see the new feature appear.
