ONE of the biggest-priced winners ever stormed to victory at Taunton – leaving punters in total disbelief.
Inspiratrice, a rank 200-1 outsider who had been beaten a total of 77 lengths in two starts over hurdles, romped home like a good thing for trainer Nicky Martin.
The freak result capped an incredible few days for the handler, who saw The Two Amigos win the Welsh Grand National on Tuesday.
That horse hadn’t won in four years – before Inspiratrice was born.
Inspiratrice had finished last twice, second last once and tenth of 17 in four previous runs.
But, ridden by Sean Bowen, the three-year-old filly surged home like a short-priced favourite in the Class 4 hurdle at 12.45.
One punter said simply: “Inspiratrice. Unreal.”
Incredibly, the horse, who had a Betfair SP of 756, wasn’t unbacked.

Oddschecker reported just one person put money on the horse through their site.
But a fellow punter posted their winning slip online, showing a £150 profit from a 50p each-way poke at odds of 250-1.
Another was £420 better off after putting £2.50 each way on the runner at odds of 140-1.
They had more faith than jockey Bowen, who admitted he thought the horse had no chance.
Asked if he thought Inspiratrice would win, he said: “No, not at all. Nicky always liked her and said she had plenty of ability but she was still in her Flat mode on her first couple of runs over hurdles.
“She was keen and wasn’t switching off properly, whereas here they went quick and she did.
“She crept into it nicely, goes on soft ground well and she’s a good jumper.
“She enjoyed being ridden like that [forward] but I wasn’t thinking we’d win doing it.”
Inspiratrice is the second 200-1 winner this year after Astapor won at Hamilton in June – but just the ninth in Britain since records began.
The longest-priced in British history is Equinoctial at Kelso in 1990 at odds of 250-1.
While He Knows No Fear was a 300-1 winner at Leopardstown in Ireland in August 2020.
