Choc fans are only just realising Quality Street has made a major change to wrappers – have you spotted it?

CHRISTMAS isn’t complete without a tub of Quality Street, but some fans have only just noticed a huge change to wrappers.

Nestle sparked fury when it announced that it was swapping out the original packing to make the chocolates more environmentally friendly.

The shiny foil has been a festive staple for 86 years, and some Brits were shocked to see it replace when they opened their tubs on Christmas Day.

Fans took to Twitter to share their horror at losing the treat’s famous shiny wrapping.

One person commented: “What has happened to the wrappers? Not shiny at all…not very inviting on the strawberry and fudge.”

Another said: “Several older family members here can barely contain their anger.”

A third fumed: “Quality Street concern… what’s going on? Different quality Quality Streets… never would have happened in the 90’s.

“Has anyone else seen this craziness?”

Around 1.7billiion Quality Street are eaten in Britain every year – which equals a whopping average of 63 per household.

While the classic treats can still be found with their iconic colours, the new vegetable-based wax has taken away their famous sheen.

Nestle said that, unlike cellulose, the new wrappers break down easily and are accepted in household recycling.

The company said they did not take the decision lightly.

Cheryl Allen, the head of sustainability at Nestle, previously told The Sun: “Quality Street is a brand that people feel very strongly about.

“We know that opening the lid and seeing ‘the jewels’, as we call them, is really important.

“We think we’ve done a really good job with the redesign, and feel confident that people will respond positively.”

Alongside switching up Quality Streets, the brand revealed that another of its iconic chocolates is set to undergo an eco-redesign – KitKat.

Recyclable wrappers will be rolled out as soon as this month, with its entire range being altered by 2024.

And Coca Cola has also started rolling out new caps to their bottles across Britain.

The caps are attached to 1.5L and 500ml bottles and don’t come off when you open your drink.

The change can also be spotted on Fanta, Sprite and Dr Pepper bottles.
