Bukayo Saka backs England to keep attacking in France World Cup clash… and says he WILL take penalty in a shootout

BUKAYO SAKA has hinted England will continue their attacking style against World Cup holders France.

Gareth Southgate‘s side are the top scorers in the tournament with 12 goals in four games – adding three more to their tally against Senegal on Sunday.

Next up for the Three Lions is by far their toughest test to date as they take on Didier Deschamps’ France – who lifted the trophy four years ago.

It is not yet known whether Southgate will switch to a back five or stick with the 4-3-3 he has used throughout the World Cup so far.

But Saka, 21, insists England will not drastically change their approach to match the world champions.

When asked whether he believes there will be a switch in formation, he said: “I am not a manager, I am a player.

“I have to trust Gareth and our coaching staff to obviously prepare the best gameplan but I think we can continue to do what we are doing.

“We have scored the most goals in the tournament so I do not see us having to change too much.”

Saka has been one of England’s standout players in Qatar, scoring three times.

He has responded admirably to the penalty miss in last year’s Euros final.

The incredible strength of the youngster has been on show for everybody to see, even before the World Cup when he stepped up to take penalties for Arsenal.

Quizzed about the possibility of taking one against France at the weekend, Saka replied: “Obviously, I have progressed and matured as a player and a person since that moment [the miss at the Euros].

“I would not have stepped up the times I have stepped up for Arsenal with penalties if I was not confident so if the moment comes and if I am set to take it, I will be more than happy to.”

England won a World Cup penalty shootout for the first time four years ago in Russia – beating Colombia in the last-16.

Prior to that, they had lost all three previous shootouts – to Germany in 1990, Argentina in 1998 and Portugal in 2006.

But spot kick heartbreak returned for the Three Lions at the Euros last summer as Italy beat them to win the final.
