APPLE has detailed the extra safety features included in recent updates to its AirTag product amid concerns about stalking.

The AirTag is meant to be a useful tool for keeping track of your things.

But since launching in April 2021 there have been several reports of them being misused by creeps to follow people.

This led Apple to push out several key feature improvements.

An update rolled out on November 10 switched on something called Precision Finding.

It’s a tool to help users find an unknown AirTag following them.

“If your iPhone is awake, a notification alerts you when an AirTag that’s separated from its owner is traveling with you and emitting a sound to indicate it has been moved,” Apple’s official document note says.

You need to have iOS 16.2 or later installed to take make use of it.

More recently, Apple rolled out another update, this time focusing on a slight bug fix.

Update 2.0.36 – as it’s officially known – was rolled out on December 12.

While there are no big new features, it is important.

It resolves an issue with the accelerometer.

There was apparently a problem causing it to not activate in certain scenarios.

As 9to5Mac reports, there is no way to update an AirTag immediately as you can with other devices like the iPhone itself.

As a firmware update it’s rolled out in phases, meaning it’s not made available to everyone at the same time.

These are delivered periodically while your AirTag is in Bluetooth range of your iPhone.

However, if you own an AirTag you can check the firmware version to see if you have it yet.

You can do this by opening the Find My app.

Tap the Items tab, then select your AirTag from the list.

Tap the name of your AirTag and you should see the serial number and firmware version.

The most recent update is 2.0.36 so if you see that you’re all good.
