I went into ‘labour’ despite never being pregnant – it was the worst pain of my life

A YOUNG women went into labour while she wasn’t pregnant, after a common procedure went very wrong.

Holly Smallwood, 26, went to get a copper IUD fitted – a non hormonal form of contraception – which resulted in a very rare and traumatic complication.

In a TikTok video, the personal fitness trainer said her gynecologist warned her the procedure was likely to be “pretty painful”, but Holly assured her she had a “high pain tolerance” and would be “fine”.

But just five minutes after the insertion, Holly started to experience “weird pains” and began throwing up uncontrollably.

“At this point I start to see black and pass out,” she added.

Holly woke just minutes later to find her extremities had “gone numb.”

“I couldn’t feel my legs, I couldn’t feel my arms, I’m sweating profusely, she’s helping me take my sweatshirt off.”

“I’m trying my back, I’m trying my stomach, I’m trying all fours,” she said, trying to find a way to relieve the pain.

Although the nurse was looking increasingly concerned, she dismissed Holly by saying some people just reacted differently to pain.

It was then, Holly realised she was having contractions.

“I don’t even know how I knew what it was,” she said. “It was only ever something I’d heard it explained in movies.”

Asking between ‘contractions’ what was going on, she told the gynecologist and nurse it was the ‘worst’ pain she’d ever experienced.

“The doctor peeks in and she’s like, ‘Oh we have to take this out now’,” Holly said

After the emergency IUD extraction, Holly said she could “breath again”.

The doctor said the IUD had been placed on a nerve which caused her body to go into labour in an attempt to push out the device.

“She said she’d only ever seen this one other time in her career,” Holly added.

The doctor also told the 26 year old she “would already have had an epidural by then (if she’d been in true labour).”

Viewers were shocked by Holly’s story one said: “At this point I don’t think we should be shoving ANYTHING up there.”

Another said: “The fact every woman who’s gotten an IUD says this is the worst pain I’ve ever felt, and there is still no anesthesia administered.”
