DRIVERS have been left stunned after realising the money-saving meaning behind a common petrol station button.
With the RAC predicting a spike in fuel prices, potentially sending petrol over 150p per litre, the handy hack can help you stick to a strict budget.

Prices at the pump have seen significant hikes in recent years and are one of the main forms of inflation driving the cost of living crisis, alongside food.
But TikTok user @ommelyla, who shared “daily fun facts” with followers, revealed a nifty method to keep a lid on your spending on the forecourt.
In their video, they showed how to operate a Pay at Pump terminal to set a limit on the amount of fuel you can buy.
You can use the buttons on the device to choose how much fuel you want before beginning to let the fuel flow.
The pump will then stop the supply once your limit is reached.
Customers can set a cut-off by price or by volume and can raise the level by increments of 10 or one.
For example, if you only want to spend £20 on fuel, you can use Pay at Pump to make sure you don’t go a penny over.
Likewise, if you only want to fill your tank halfway and know how much it can take, you can pre-program the volume and start pumping in the knowledge that you won’t overfill it.
This saves Brits from having to pump watch and try and manually release the pump at the exact amount they want.
The TikTok whizz said: “I only just found this out.
“Who knew this?
“Was it just me who didn’t know?”
It appears it wasn’t just them as social media commenters were quick to share their own amazement.
One wrote: “I didn’t know that.”
Another added: “It’s more important now, because it’s so difficult to stop at £50 exactly.”
Thankfully this useful feature is available at all petrol stations operated by Tesco, according to the chain’s website.
Asda also has a version, though it can be set up slightly differently, while select other forecourts have also installed them.
It comes after a car dealer revealed four questions people like him hate to hear because they know it will result in a better deal for the customer.
