Dominic thanked doctors and hospital staff, writing: “Your words at the end have been echoed throughout my life in regards to my dad. “A gentleman, such a kind beautiful soul.”

“For what’s it’s worth… As a father I believe the greatest gift he can receive from his child is the knowing he is deeply loved. Deeply respected. Surely a father’s only wish for his child is to grow, flourish and better him. That was his wish. It came true,” Purcell said.

“I know very clearly I can not better him but I can try and be like him. To his tribe of many grandchildren – he adored and loved you all so very much. Pass on his memory.”

“Watching my dad confront his own mortality was a lesson in courage and dignity. His stoicism in the face of great pain was heroic. A lesson. A last lesson from him to me. From me to my own children,” he went on.

“To all my siblings let’s try and cool the furnace of sorry and instead celebrate his great life and his conduct within it. Let us use the lessons and examples he taught. Let it not be in vain, the worth of him and the worth of us, nor the love we had for him and the love we have for us. That is family.”

“Let the bloodline continue in his honor with strength, dignity and above all else. Humility…”

“Such was his distain for fuss and bother. We had that in common. His humility was perfect. VIVAMUS, MORIENDUM EST. (Let us live, since we must die). Go with mum dad. Your loving son Dom. R.I.P JOSEPH PURCELL. 1944-2024.”

One week ago, Tish Cyrus shared a tribute to Joseph shortly before his death.

“This is Joe. My Father in law. Joe got sick about 4 weeks ago and is now in the process of leaving this world behind and headed for some place way more beautiful.. getting to know and love him has been an honor and a privilege,” she wrote.

“I can honestly say that he is one of the most beautiful humans I will ever know…”

She added in part of her post: “The most selfless, gentle man that I’m honored to call “Dad”I will cherish the memories we have made in the last few years for the rest of my life. I love and admire you Joe with all my heart and soul. ❤️ xx Tish.”
