Brittany Fallon, daughter of legendary rider Kieren, has reportedly flown to Australia to be next to her boyfriend as he fights for life

Two other jockeys were involved in the Canberra pile-up but they, and the horses involved, all escaped unhurt.

Unfortunately, 23-year-old Cherchi, who rode over 100 winners in Britain mostly under trainer Marco Botti, was badly injured and was attended to on the track for over an hour.

He was then rushed to hospital with severe injuries but the last update on his condition came from NSW Jockeys Association on March 20.

The Mirror report Sardinia-born Cherchi’s parents and his girlfriend Brittany have flown to the Australia capital to be next to him in person.

The development comes as jockeys Cieren, Brittany’s brother, and Thore Hammer Hansen asked the racing community to ‘pray for a miracle’.

Fallon choked up as he spoke to Nick Luck about the devastating injury that his family so scared.

He said: “It was a freak accident. He’s not in a good way but we are praying.

“I’m asking everyone in racing to come together as a community and pray for him.

“It’s a hard time for me and my family but if we’ve got everyone supporting him and praying, hopefully he can pull through.”

While Hammer Hansen spoke after riding a winner in Germany. He said: “One of my very close mates sadly suffered a very bad fall.

“Please God he pulls through. Sad times. I hope everyone comes together as a community and prays for a miracle.”

Apprentice jockey Aidan Jones is raising money for Cherchi’s care by running a marathon from Newmarket to Cambridge.

His goal of £500 has been smashed with almost £4,500 raised and donations continue to flood in – you can contribute here.

While supporters are also being encouraged to sign a card letting Cherchi and his family know they are thinking of them.
