This includes flights to Majorca during the summer season and Geneva during the winter, as well as year round flights to Belfast and Bristol.

However, the airline has restarted flights from Newcastle to Alicante, after they were suspended in August 2020 due to the pandemic.

Operating twice a week – on Tuesdays and Saturdays – they will run until the end of October.

Fares start from £28.99.

EasyJet UK country manager Ali Gayward said: We’re delighted to be relaunching our route from Newcastle to Alicante offering even more choice and connectivity to our customers in the North East travelling to Spain’s sunny coast this summer.”

Not only is Alicante Spain’s sunniest city – with 349 sunshine hours a month – but the cost of a pint is as little as £2.39.

Later this year, easyJet will also relaunch flights from Newcastle to Amsterdam.

Starting from September 5, the twice weekly flights will operate on Thursdays and Sundays.

Last year, Newcastle Airport was named ‘Airport of the Year’ in the under 5million passengers category,

The award was given at the Routes World Conference in Turkey – and was the only UK airport to make the list.

And it’s not just Newcastle Airport getting new flights this summer.

Six new routes are being launched from London Heathrow this summer.

This includes Paris Orly and Barcelona with Vueling, as well as Kos, Izmir and Abu Dhabi with British Airways.

And Virgin Atlantic has launched new flights to Bangalore.

Ross Baker, Chief Commercial Officer said: “Last year, we served 79 million passengers, and we expect to serve more travellers with a record breaking 2024.”
