Drivers are only just realising the surprising £1 household item that can get your car looking good as new

MOTORISTS have discovered a common household food item that can get their cars sparkling.

If you don’t already have it to hand in your kitchen cupboards, you can buy one for as little as 99p.

All you need is a jar of peanut butter to revive your car

Plenty of drivers find the trims on their cars look faded over time, and most will also see grime as a result of tree sap.

Bringing that brand-new sheen back to your plastic bumpers can be tricky.

Tree sap is also sticky and clings to every surface, making it a nightmare to clean.

Try spreading a dab of peanut butter to the dirty or faded area and warming it up.

Smooth peanut butter is preferable, as the crunchy kind might leave scratches.

Once well rubbed in, it should wipe away leaving your car looking brand new.

And you can nab a tub from Sainsburys for just 99p.

Car experts shared the easy hack, demonstrating with peanut butter on a piece of tired-looking bumper.

They then cleaned a portion with trim restorer, showing the exact same result.

If you’re not able to get your hands on some, mayonnaise and hand sanitiser are some other household items that should work just as well for sap.

And if you’re looking for other easy household hacks to clean your car, try using rubber gloves to remove dust and pet fur.

Friction from rubbing over your seats and car interior with the gloves will lift off any pet hairs that a vacuum cleaner or brush will find tricky to remove.

The pet hairs and lint will stick to the rubber gloves making for a quick cleaning method.

Other cupboard essentials including nail polish and toothpaste can also replace your pricier cleaning products.

Toothpaste, for example, gives a gentle abrasion which can remove surface stains from your car headlights.

And clear nail polish can be used to fill in light scratches to your motor’s exterior and windows or windscreen.
