Carpets can be one of the most stubborn materials to get stains out of, especially if a spillage has gone unnoticed and has been left to soak into the fibres.

But, tough stains can be lifted using common household items such as salt, washing up liquid, shampoo and shaving cream.

They can be used to lift various types of stain from wine spillages to chewing gum.

Nic Shacklock, an expert at Online-Bedrooms.co.uk, said: “Carpet stains can be an absolute nightmare to clean especially if they’ve been sitting there unnoticed for weeks.

“These stains can be lifted with some common household items meaning you won’t have to spend a fortune having to get the entire floor deep cleaned.

“Washing up liquid is a great solution to getting rid of mud marks and baking soda can remove any lingering odours.”

It comes as one mum shared a simple way to keep mould away for good without lifting a finger.

Anita Birges, from Australia, took to social media to share her nifty cleaning hack she thinks “everyone should know”.

In the clip, she revealed it was perfect for those struggling with mould – especially in small spaces such as clothes drawers in the home.

Her simple solution is also super budget-friendly too, using two natural products that won’t cost you more than £6.

She said: “Do you have mould in your drawers or in your bedroom? Have I got the best mould prevention hack for you. It’s all about absorbing moisture.”

“All you need to do is get yourself some mega chalk and grab yourself some clove oil.”

She then demonstrated what you have to do to keep mould away.

Anita took a block of the chalk and added a few dabs of the clove oil to it.
