A further third admit they never spend any time thinking about getting in better shape.

The poll of 2,000 people revealed that the average smartphone user spent more time a day watching fitness videos than actually getting in shape.

One in five have even delayed or cancelled a run on the treadmill to use their phones instead, the survey by weight loss app Voy revealed.

Brummies were found to be most likely to swap a jog for the bog.

The second city was the UK’s most sedate place, with residents clocking up just 46 minutes of workouts a day.

Next on the taking it easy list were Liverpool, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Southampton.

Sheffield was revealed as the nation’s most active city, with its residents exercising for 74 minutes a day on average.

Belfast, Plymouth, Brighton and Manchester were the next most likely to workout.

Voy fitness coach Emily Wood said: “Finding the time in our day for physical exercise can be difficult. Work, socialising and even the weather will often get in the way when it comes to putting on our gym gear, but maintaining a good level of fitness is important as part of a healthy mind and body.”

It comes as figures reveal 64 per cent of over-15s are overweight or obese compared with 46 per cent in Italy and 45 per cent in France, according to the Organisation for Economic Development.
