I lived in a van but HATED it – we can NEVER stop still & we’re off-grid if there’s no sun…but that’s not the worst part

A WOMAN has revealed the things she hated about living in a van – including they can never stop still.

Van lifer Shay hay ditched living a conventional live in the city for an off-grid lifestyle on the road.

Shay revealed the top things she hated about living in a van

She said the weather can be very unpredictable

The content creator, who lived in her van for three years, took to TikTok to share her top things she hates about living on the road.

In the video, she said: “I lived in my van full time for three years and in the spirit of transparency here are the top five things I hate about van life.”

The influencer explained she has to deal with the toilet waste after every use.

Shay said: “We have a perfectly fine toilet in here but it definitely is a little bit more in depth than just going to the toilet flushing it and never thinking about it again.

“Every single form of waste whether it’s trash or toilet waste that we create we have to deal with later it never just goes away.

“We have to find a place to dispose of it. We have to just constantly be thinking about how much waste we’ve accumulated.

“And it can kinda just be a little daunting especially if you’re sick.”

The motorist also revealed how she has to live at the mercy of the weather.

She explained: “When you live in a typical house and it’s a heat wave outside or really bad snowstorm or it’s raining for a week you cans still stay inside.”

For this, the car-owner said she has to keep temperatures around 26 degrees to keep warm.

She added: “And it if goes anywhere outside that we have to keep moving even if we had plans to stick around.

“Also if it’s storming like it is right now we’re not getting any sun for our solar panels all of our electricity and how we charge our phones and everything.”

She also is “completely dependant” on solar panels.

But if there is not enough sun she can’t have any power and will have to leave to a different location.

Living off-grid can also become lonely, she said.

Leaving all of her friends in Philadelphia before moving into the van meant she has to make new friends again.

Shay added: “Having to make all new friends again it feels like it’s the first day of kindergarten.”

But the mishaps don’t end here.

Living in a motorhome means you can suffer a breakdown at any moment or splash cash on an unexpected repair.

Shay said: “When your vehicle is also your home you need to go and get your brakes done.

“And then only do we have to spend money or replacing a part.”

Although living off-grid can be an adventure, Shay admits “there’s not a lot of lazy days”.

It comes as another van lifer opened up on how easy and care-free his life is while living full-time in a converted camper.

Posting on TikTok, Richard (@indi_van_a_jones) revealed what his day-to-day life is like while living in a 2019 Volkswagen Crafter.
