Spanish outlet Marca report that United have already met with Barcelona ahead of a transfer.
Greenwood is currently on loan at Getafe from United and is contracted to the Red Devils until 2025.
Atletico Madrid are also said to be rivalling Barca for Greenwood and a permanent move to Getafe remains a possibility.
An unnamed Saudi club are also said to be interested in the United outcast.
Marca claim that United chiefs have already met with Deco, Barca’s sporting director ahead of a move and that the interest is concrete.
Greenwood is said to favour a move to a club competing in the Champions League, making moves to Saudi Arabia or Getafe more unlikely.
But the player is also reported to have enjoyed his team playing at Getafe, a team located in the south of Madrid.
Greenwood has not played for Manchester United since he was suspended by the club in January 2022.

This was while the forward was arrested and charged with allegations of rape and sexual assault.
All charges were subsequently dropped last year, leaving the player free to play football again – and he moved to Getafe on loan last summer in the hope of rebuilding his footballing career.
United minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe appeared to leave the door open for Greenwood to play for United again when he promised a “fresh decision” on the player’s future during his first interview since his investment.
Several women’s charities and Manchester United supporter groups have made it clear that they would never welcome Greenwood back at Old Trafford.
LaLiga president Javier Tebas meanwhile declared that he “does not care” about the past when he was asked about Greenwood playing in his league.
Tebas said: “He was not condemned [found guilty] so I do not care. If he was not condemned here, why would we condemn him?
“Maybe the circumstances have made it easier for him to come [to Getafe] but he’s a great player and I have got no other comments to make.
“He’s doing really well at Getafe as a player and I hope he continues to be successful and he continues to stay in Spanish football because that’s always good for us.”
Greenwood has six goals and five assists in 23 games for Getafe.
