When Carmen left the Raspberries in 1975, some of his songs became major hits when other stars sang them as covers.

Celine Dion is well known for covering his hit All By Myself, while Olivia Newton-John covered his song She Did It.

After huge success in the 80s, Carmen toured with Ringo Starr and the All Star Band. He also reunited with the Raspberries in 2004 for several performances.

“People used to ask me ‘Why don’t you guys get together and just play one gig?”‘ Carmen once said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“Because it takes the same amount of preparation for one good show as a six-month tour. I never wanted to be the guy to put this band back on a stage and pop everyone’s bubble and have them go home saying ‘Oh, they weren’t that good.'”

Carmen is survived by wife Amy and their two children, Kathryn and Clayton.
