Crowd goes wild as figure in Oscars crowd takes off his hat and pulls out microphone

It was one of the most anticipated moments of the Oscars – and it did not disappoint. 

Cameras panned to a figure in the crowd wearing a pink bedazzled suit, hidden beneath a cowboy hat, and sunk back in his chair.

The suddenly: a light appeared and he took off his hat.

It was Ryan Gosling and he was seated behind Australia’s superstar Margot Robbie for the performance of a lifetime: ‘I’m Just Ken’.

His Barbie co-star Robbie couldn’t contain her laughter as he whipped off his hat and left it with his sister Mandi before charging toward the stage.

Gosling was met at the stairs by I’m Just Ken producer Mark Ronson playing the guitar.

The audience cheered as Gosling sat down on stage among his fellow Kens, all perfectly executing their choreography. 

But it was following the bridge of the song that the crowd was truly left speechless. 

Gosling was swallowed by a mass of giant cardboard cutouts of Barbie. When he reappeared he was standing with none other than legendary musician Slash.

The Guns ‘n Roses lead guitarist put his own spin on the iconic Barbie hit, as Gosling and 65 male backup dancers sung along behind him.

Toward the end of the song, the screens displayed a callout to the audience, reading “everyone sing,” followed by the running lyrics. 

Gosling then took his show on the road, moving down into the audience to hand the microphone to stars such as Robbie, Greta Gerwig and Emma Stone.

To finish it off, he grabbed the hand of the camera man, leading him up to the stage as Gosling sang the final note of I’m Just Ken

The actor went viral back in January for his reaction to the pop hit winning Best Song at the 2024 Critics Choice awards.

I’m Just Ken was also nominated at the 2024 Grammys for Best Song for Visual Media.
