Emma Stone takes home her second Oscar after nabbing Best Actress for Poor Things at the 2024 ceremony

Emma Stone has taken out the coveted Best Actress gong at the 2024 Oscars.

The actress was up against giants of cinema, including Annette Bening for Nyad, Lily Gladstone in Killers of the Flower Moon, Sandra Huller for Anatomy of a Fall, and Carey Mulligan in Maestro. Emma Stone for Poor Things.

This is the actresses second Oscar, after she took out the win for Best Actress for her 2016 performance in La La Land.

Stone took to the stage with tears in her eyes after being announced as the winner for her performance in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things.

“Oh boy, my dress is broken,” she said as she took to the microphone, experiencing a small wardrobe malfunction. “I think it happened during I’m just Ken.”

“Oh, boy, this is really overwhelming,” she continued, before thanking the five previous winners who were stood on stage to announce the nominees.

She continued on, thanking the four other actresses nominated in her category.

“I share this with you, I am in awe of you,” she said. “It has been such an honour to do all of this together. I hope we get to keep doing more together.”

The Poor Things star was flustered as she exclaimed, “I don’t know what I’m saying oh my god,” overwhelmed by her unexpected win.

”The other night I was panicking, as you can kind of see, happens a lot, that maybe something like this could happen,” she said. “And Yorgos said to me, ‘Please take yourself out of it’ he was right.

“It’s not about me,” she added. “It’s about a team that came together to make something greater than some of its parts. And that is the best part about making movies.”

She went on to thank the crew and cast of Poor Things, saying she is “deeply honoured” to share the win with them.

Before ending her speech, Stone quickly thanked her family and husband, before giving a special shout-out to her daughter.

“Most importantly my daughter who is going to be three in three days and has turned our lives technicolour,” she said. “I love you bigger than the whole sky my girl. So, thank you so much.”
