Costa Coffee makes major change to its sausage breakfast roll as fans call for price to be slashed

COSTA Coffee fans are up in arms after the cafe chain cut down the number of sausages in their breakfast rolls.

The coffee giant used to put four sausages in their bap – but the number has now been reduced to three.

However, the price has remained the same – with the sarnie still ringing in at £3.75.

The news broke when an eagle-eyed regular this week posted a photo of his three-sausage bap on Twitter

His fellow customers rushed to the comments to tell of their dismay – but the chain soon hit back with the reasoning behind the decision.

They wrote: “Having listened to customer feedback, we’ve improved the sausages used in our breakfast rolls and they’re now bigger than the sausages we had been using.

“As a result, we can only fit 3 in a roll now.”

But fans are less than convinced, with many now calling for the roll to become cheaper.

One person wrote: “Clearly room for four here.”

Another said: “But you kept the price the same? Rip off.”

Consumer rights expert, Martyn James added: “I’m just not buying the ‘three bigger sausages’ line here.

“The problem with having a successful product is people notice when you tinker with it.

“So there was no way regular shoppers were going to fail to spot the mystery of the missing sausage.”

A Costa Coffee spokesperson said: “We changed our sausage bap recipe following feedback from our store teams re: operational challenges during the cooking process – the fourth sausage was falling out the bap.

“We’ve moved from 4 smaller sausages, replacing it with 3 bigger sausages to fit the bap neatly for a more even cook and enjoyable experience.

“This has resulted in a small change in the weight of the overall bap, under 5g.”
