I won £1million jackpot but still work in ASDA – shoppers ask me to kiss their lotto tickets for luck

A WOMAN won a £1million jackpot but has chosen to keep her day job at ASDA.

Amanda Lewis, 50, scooped the windfall in the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker with her husband Barry, 52, last year.

Despite the life-changing sum, the mum-of-two refused to pack-in life on the tills at the supermarket in Wolverhampton.

Amanda kept her £9-an-hour job and now has shoppers asking her to kiss their lotto tickets for good luck.

She said: “I have people saying, ‘I want to buy my scratchcard off that lady because she won the lottery’.

“I even have colleagues do that as well.

“I knew it would get out and I just thought it would be better to go public. It also shows people that it is possible to win something.”

Amanda and Barry paid the mortgage off with their winnings, bought a few properties to rent out and a new home to live in.

They also treated their family.

Amanda added: “We promised the kids cars if we ever won so we bought them a car each.

“We bought Barry’s dad’s property for him as well. He has always worked all his life and paid rent but he will not have to pay that anymore.”

Barry has also kept his job as a self-employed tiler following the win last year.

He said: “You still need to work to earn money. I like working and that’s the only way you get to meet people and socialise.

“It is nice to have a substantial amount of money as it makes you feel more secure. You haven’t got to worry about bills.

“A lot of people will say ‘I can’t believe I’ve got a millionaire tiling my bathroom’.”

It comes after another man who managed to bank £1million decided to live off-grid in a tiny SUV.

Steve Glover, 73, couldn’t believe his luck when he checked his lotto numbers.

But all he wanted to do was splash the cash on a motorhome and move to Scotland.

And one woman from Birmingham still shops at Poundland after her £2m win.

Marie Kibler and husband Paul still admit to watching the pennies.
