Forgotten Arsenal star signs for Chinese second tier side six weeks after contract at Armenian minnows was torn up

FORMER Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo has signed for a Chinese second division side… just weeks after having his previous contract torn up.

The forward, 31, left the Gunners in 2017 after playing just 20 games for the club, scoring one goal.

He joined Ligue 1 side Toulouse and showed signs of improvement, bagging nine goals in his opening season.

But he netted just seven times in 39 games across the following two campaigns and departed in 2020.

A free agent for seven months, he eventually penned a deal with Championship side Huddersfield until the end of the season.

The Terriers opted not to renew his contract three months later after no goals in nine matches.

He then spent a further six months without a team, before he signed with Armenian outfit Urartu.

During his one year with the club he scored four goals in 12 matches, leaving by “mutual agreement” at the end of January.

And now he has jetted off to China to join second-tier side Qingdao Red Lions.

Sanogo was pictured holding up the club’s red shirt as he smiled for the camera.
