The Veronicas discuss their new album and first USA tour in a decade

The Veronicas are making a huge move for the first time in a decade.

The iconic Aussie duo are off to tour the USA for the first time in 10 years.

Sisters Jess and Lisa Origliasso told Today Extra hosts Sylvia Jeffreys and David Campbell that they are off to the states at the end of this month, ahead of their tour kicking off at the start of April.

“23 dates in 30 days, so it’s like a bang out tour in the US,” said Jess. “We’re so excited to reconnect with our fans.

Lisa added: “We’re going to be living together on the tour bus again, dirty rock and roll.”

The pair have just released a new song called Here to Dance, which they described as them “entering their dancefloor era”.

“We went quite eclectic on this album, you know there’s some pop-rock, pop-punk, now disco-pop and then further on in the album it gets ballad-y… we just sort of really experimented,” shared Jess.

The music video for their new single was filmed on their phone, which they said was a decision they made due to the meaning behind the song.

“The song’s just about not caring about anything, following your heart and blocking out the noise,” said Jess.

They said they did the entire video in one take, however there were a few minor mishaps.

Lisa shared that amongst all the dancing, she was hit in the eye while filming the video.

“Back in the day you would have to refilm that,” said Jess.

“We did think, we said ‘should we refilm it?’,” explained Lisa. “But we’re like ‘no leave it in’, that’s what this is, behind the music.”

Their new album Gothic Summer is set to be released on March 22, and while the duo say they love Taylor Swift’s Cruel Summer, that wasn’t the inspiration behind the album.

“As we’ve grown up our perspective has become older and wiser and that’s what we call the gothic side of our summer,” explained Jess.

“We’ve made a very upbeat record, most of this record is actually very influenced by our live show, when we’re playing live we throw a lot of energy at each other, at the crowd and the crowd is screaming back to us, we just wanted to create an album that really harnessed that energy.”

Their original idea was to make a pop summer record, however after looking back at what they were writing about they realised it “went a little deeper” and decided to call it Gothic Summer instead.

And while their new album is on its way, old hits such as Untouched will always remain an Aussie classic.

Speaking on the idea of younger generations of Australians listening to their older music, the duo say it’s “a huge honour” to have their music passed down generation to generation.

“I don’t know if there’s a better feeling as an artist to feel so embraced by so many different generations,” said Jess. “it’s truly a dream.”
