Harbour Lights Amusements in Fleetwood is a popular arcade located on the Lancashire coast and known for its cheap prices.
The owners say the decision was made “with deep sadness”, and thanked customers “young and old” and all current and former staff who have helped with their successes over the years, reports LancashireLive.
In a statement on Facebook, Harbour Lights Amusements said despite their “best efforts”, factors including the “energy and cost of living crises” meant that they wouldn’t be able to open often.
The Stefani family – who own the arcade – said they will “explore renting out the space and hope to attract something positive for our beautiful esplanade”.
They announced the closure on Facebook writing: “With deep sadness, we announce tonight that Harbour Lights Amusements will be closing its doors for good after 40 years and more.
The post continued: “Factors like the energy and cost of living crises have led us to re-evaluate our opening times.
“Considering school timetables, it became apparent that we would have been closed more often than open, which greatly upset us given our part-time nature and the corresponding wages.”
It concluded: “Thank you for your support throughout the years. Regarding the future of the arcade premises once we vacate, we will explore renting out the space and hope to attract something positive for our beautiful esplanade.”
The arcade’s final day of trading will be Sunday 14th April 2024.
Many people flocked to the comments section to share their sadness, with one saying: “We are absolutely gutted for you all.
“It’s getting harder and harder for everyone but major thank you for all the joy you’ve brought to this town xxxx.”
Another added: “Ahhh this is such sad news. It’s been the heart of Fleetwood for so long and we have so many fond memories here with you.
“Such amazing staff and always a great atmosphere who go above and beyond for everyone.
“We will sure be in over the next few months to make the most of it. Sending well wishes to you all xx.”
A third said: “I’m absolutely gutted for you all xx its our favourite place to walk to and let the kids be independent with money. I hope and wish for a miracle for you xx.”
It comes as popular skincare and cosmetics company, The Body Shop, is also closing its Fleetwood store.
The beauty chain will pull down the shutters on a total of 75 sites over the next four to six weeks.
