‘We’ll be cheering you on’: Pink made honorary Matilda after being gifted iconic jersey

Pink has been made an honorary member of the Matildas after being gifted a personalised jersey.

Matildas goalkeeper Lydia Williams presented the pop megastar and her daughter, Willow, with two goalkeeper jerseys back stage at Pink’s Melbourne show on Saturday.

It’s a replicate of the same purple Nike jersey worn by Williams and fellow Matildas goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold throughout Australia’s home World Cup campaign.

”Thank you, I will wear it proudly,” Pink said as Williams handed her the shirt.

“Dude, with your name on it, how rad.”

The US singer and her daughter are the first to get their hands on the now iconic jersey, which went on sale today.

Just six months ago, it was the only Matildas jersey fans were unable to purchase. Within hours of the release of the three goalkeeper jerseys they have sold out.

As the veteran keeper and the Who Knew star continued to chat, they shared a sweet moment.

“You’re always on in the change room playlist so you’re part of the team basically,” Williams said.

”I was goalie in field hockey,” Pink replied, much to William’s delight.

The Melbourne Victory FC keeper told the Sydney Morning Herald the singer had a genuine interest in the jersey and is a big advocate for women’s sport.

“She loves Australia, and she loves Australians… When she realised it was about the World Cup and the first release of the jerseys, her excitement and genuine curiosity… She’s smiling big in the photo, so she’s definitely pumped about it,” Williams said.

“She’s like the Taylor Swift of our generation. If Pink had that level of social media back then she would be the equivalent to that.”

The singer also took to her Instagram to post a touching note to Arnold.

“Mackenzie Arnold sorry you couldn’t join us, but we’ll be cheering you on this week,” she wrote.

The Matildas jersey will not be the only Aussie sports merchandise Pink and her family will tuck into their suitcases when they leave our shores.

The singer’s son, Jameson was spotted onstage during the tour wearing a Carlton AFL football jersey.
